I’m truly a lover of all things creative. Fashion just happened to be the first and it never left.

One of the earliest memories of my childhood that I have are these pair of black leather pants. I couldn’t have been any older than four or five, but I can remember choosing to wear these pants with a pair of sneakers instead of flats because of how the pant opening fell on top of the sneaker. It just looked better in my opinion.

Fast forward to middle school - I was the queen of colored skinny jeans and quite the zebra print enthusiast. This was also a time where I’d gotten exposed to the derogatory things that were said about dark-skinned women. Being compared to a roaches, being told not to wear red lip stick or bright colors, and of course the classic “turn off the lights in the classroom and say “where did Daysia go” joke that I’m sure a lot of dark-skinned kids experienced growing up. I can’t sit here and say it didn’t get to me sometimes, but ultimately it’s what influenced my style. I truly embraced the way bright colors looked on my skin, and it’s almost

like I had this subconscious mission to prove that my complexion doesn’t limit what I’m able to wear. The “dark skin bashing” culture isn’t really that prevalent anymore, but I continue to dress authentically because I’m confident in my personal style. There are so many women out there that haven’t found that peace yet, and that is exactly why I decided to be a Stylist. To help these women find that confidence in dressing authentically, and for no one but themselves, despite what could have been ingrained in them that they can’t wear for whatever reason. So when you see that fashionably dressed, by DG’s primary value is authenticity, it’s not something I just pulled out of my ass because it sounds cute or inspirational on paper.

I’m extremely grateful and fortunate to have always had a support system when it came to pursing being a Stylist. From my parents being on board with me going to an out of state university to study Fashion Merchandising, and constantly reminding me that no matter what irrelevant job I was working at the time, that my business would be the end goal. To my husband, that encouraged me to go all in on launching my business as well as creating content for my blog instead of looking for another job when I got laid off in December 2022. I’d like to say that I would’ve been able to do it without them, but I really don’t think that would be true. And if it is, I doubt it would have been by the age of 26.

I’m not very into astrology, but one thing that I always see about Virgos that I know is very accurate about myself is being a perfectionist. By the time y’all read this, it’ll have been a couple of years since I first started designing this site and actively working on my business model. Again, a lover of all things creative, so I take pride in anything that I call my work. I also wanted to make sure that I was actually prepared to run this business. I know I can’t prepare to have an answer for every question I may get asked or have a solution for every problem that I may run into, but I damn sure tried.

Simultaneously, which may sound contradicting, is that in the process, I also accepted that the longer I chase perfection, the longer it was going to take for me to start offering my services and actually calling myself a Stylist. Numerous business owners have told me that I have to allow myself to make mistakes and figure some things out as I go, so that’s how it’s going down. If you’ve ever read any of my blogs, you know I’m super transparent, so as real as I am over there, I am here. You’ll also know that I write a lot, so thank you to everyone that actually read this to the end! I’m done now, so come on and let me style ya!
